Mert’s Specialty Meats is owned and operated by Mert Prescott, Shirley Decker Prescott and their son Brandon Decker. Together, Mert, Brandon and Shirley offer a combined 100 years of retail experience.

They have two stores – the Okemos store is located at 1870 W. Grand River Avenue and the Lansing location is at 1629 E. Michigan Avenue, on the corner of Marshall St.

Mert Prescott first learned the meat market trade as he worked at his family meat processing plant in mid-Michigan. His grandfathers owned a meat packing plant in Stockbridge, and they shipped bacon and hams all across the nation. Mert then went on to work as a butcher for both national and independent retail stores in the Greater Lansing area, including L&L Food Centers and Goff Food Stores. Over the years, Mert has developed a large following of customers who ask for him by name. That’s because shoppers trust that Mert will give them a quality product at the best possible price. Mert offers a wealth of knowledge about the entire butchering process, from the best cuts of meat to maintaining a friendly and safe environment.
